Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Calgary and Southern Alberta. With over 40 years of solid community experience, 70 active programs, and comprehensive wraparound support, CCIS ensures that our services respond to the needs of ethnically diverse communities within Calgary and area.

CCIS, in partnership with Calgary and Area Children’s Services (CS) is currently implementing a Cultural Brokerage Program with the overall objective to increase collaboration, engagement, and partnership with culturally diverse communities in Calgary, and strengthen community capacity within Calgary’s multicultural communities.

The CCIS Cultural Brokerage Program (CCBP) is a team of diverse individuals made up of 12 Cultural Brokers and a Coordinator. The cultural brokerage team provides holistic services to immigrant families. To achieve this, CCIS is recruiting a Cultural Broker (Arabic). This position will be located in CS locations across the City.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as the liaison between Children’s Services and immigrant families
  • Educate immigrant families on the mandate of Children’s Services and systems expectations
  • Facilitate communication and provide cultural interpretation
  • Conduct comprehensive case management
  • Provide families with culturally responsive support and follow ups
  • Advise Children’s Services on cultural nuances, immigration journey, trauma, community resources throughout the case cycle
  • Empower families through information sharing and emotional support
  • Support families with their settlement needs
  • Connect families with counselling, parenting, family violence, relevant community services
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with community partners


Qualifications:

  • Combination of relevant experience and education
  • Understanding and appreciation of the service needs of various community and ethno cultural groups
  • Extensive experience in the settlement sector
  • Experience and ability to collaborate effectively with different community partners
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and self-starting tendencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of Social Work practices in a Canadian context
  • Advanced technological skills
  • Preference will be given to individuals connected to Arabic ethno-cultural communities and groups
  • Candidates must be fluent in Arabic
  • As travel is required, the successful candidate must have a vehicle
