Health Care Worker with experience in Mental Health and Addictions to join the Cambie Older Adult Mental Health and Addictions Team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!
As a Health Care Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
- Work under the direction of the Housing Case Manager.
- Provide community support services to complex medically comprised individuals with mental illness and substance use issues residing in group homes or independently by observing/monitoring clients.
- Provide emotional support, advocacy, accompaniment to medical/psychiatric or other appointments/procedures and assisting clients with activities of daily living and residential moves.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program such as Community Health Worker Program, plus two (2) years recent, relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid B.C. driver's license. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement will be paid.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
- Sound knowledge of community, social and health resources
- Ability to work with clients to problem solve activities of daily living.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with psychiatric emergencies.
- Demonstrated ability to work with clients who have active substance use issues and difficult/challenging behaviours.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, work independently with minimal direction, take initiative to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other employees, deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and staff from other agencies, maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to carry out the physical demands of the job.
- Willingness to work with a culturally diverse population is required.
- Physical ability to carry out duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
