The Laboratory Assistant I provides front-line support for the Environmental Microbiology Section of the Provincial Public Health Laboratory. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will perform a variety of laboratory functions which includes but is not limited to: Operating, cleaning, and maintaining technical equipment; participating in quality control and quality assurance activities and ensuring completion of required documentation; Performs essential clerical duties such as entering and checking sample demographic information in the Laboratory Information System, filing worksheets and requisitions, answer phone calls, handles enquiries from clients to clarify test requests for specimen processing and communicates report/sample information. You will help your team process a high volume of samples that are received for environmental testing.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Previous customer service experience. Advanced communication skills and abilities. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with people in a team-orientated environment. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills. Must have good manual dexterity for manipulation of samples. Strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction. Flexible schedule availability.
Preferred Qualifications:Data entry experience. Knowledge of WHMIS and SDS. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Cerner Millennium Laboratory Information System. Strong keyboarding skills. Has interpersonal skills for dealing with people in a team oriented environment.
