Mechanical Engineer

Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for mechanical design and analysis for the Bethune site. The position supports the maintenance, production and wellfield departments to resolve technical issues, completes design for maintenance and minor capital projects, coordinates interfaces between internal resources and external technical bodies, and analyzes proposed changes according to a management of change process. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for driving sound and standardized design, construction and maintenance practices for mechanical assets. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support technical issues relating to mechanical maintenance
  • Support maintenance personnel in troubleshooting technically complex issues
  • Support maintenance and reliability department in the development of maintenance procedures and plans, and any associated troubleshooting or root cause analysis of failures. Particular areas of practice include, but are not limited to, mechanical and process equipment, rotating equipment and piping, materials handling equipment
  • Conduct mechanical design and analysis for small installations and mechanical modifications
  • Coordinate and/or review design for more extensive or complex designs
  • Review and/or develop engineering, drawings and documents in terms of feasibility, standards, codes, and K+S quality specifications
  • Work within the Management of Change process
  • Manage CAPEX and OPEX projects of a scope in line with this position’s area of technical expertise and/or projects of a defined level of complexity or scope
  • Maintain, update, and define K+S Bethune site design specifications and core documents for mechanical scope
  • Support and maintain the integrity monitoring program
  • Guide lifecycle planning efforts

  • Mechanical or Industrial Engineer (B.Sc or M.Sc, with ability to register as EIT or P.Eng with APEGS) with 10 – 15 years of experience
  • Experience in heavy industrial process setting is preferred
  • Ensures effective relationship building and communication skills within the department
  • Displays a reasoned perspective and brings resolution to issues while considering all areas of impact
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to proactively resolve issues that arise
  • Able to work well in a team environment and as an individual
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
  • Experience with piping system and vessel design / inspection and support of a Risk Based Inspection Program
  • Experience with machine design, process equipment and material handling workings
