Position Overview

The Department of Medical Genetics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Conducting bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput genomic and transcriptomic data generated from tissue samples
  • Developing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines for data processing, quality control, and analysis
  • Interpreting and visualizing results and presenting findings to the research team
  • Collaborating with other lab members to integrate bioinformatics analysis with wet lab experiments
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest bioinformatics tools and technologies relevant to the research
  • Collecting and organizing biological data from various sources such as databases, literature, and experiments
  • Analyzing biological data using computational tools and statistical methods to identify patterns, relationships, and trends
  • Developing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines for data processing, quality control, analysis, and data visualization
  • Creating and maintaining databases for storing and managing biological data
  • Collaborating with other researchers, scientists, and technical staff to share findings and data
  • Presenting research findings through scientific publications, reports, and presentations

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, etc
  • Experience in analyzing genomic and transcriptomic data, such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq and/or single-cell sequencing
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
