The First BGC in Canada

In 1900 The East End Boys Club was founded in Saint John, and would later become the first Boys and Girls Club, and today BGC of Greater Saint John.

In a single year The BGC of Greater Saint John has over 2,200 youth attending programs, has served over 14,120 lunches, given away over $22,000 in scholarships, and wrapped over 800 Christmas gifts!

Location: Main Club

Position Summary:

Responsible for the overall management, coordination, organization and growth of community programs. This position will work with all directors to ensure that objectives align with the strategic directives and priorities of the club.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Service and Development:

  • Organize programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the Club.
  • Develop new programs to support the strategic direction of the Club.
  • Locate new areas to offer programming to under-served children and youth.
  • Write program funding proposals and find sponsorships for programs and services.

Leadership:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners; including municipalities, schools, and funders;
  • Manage teams of program delivery staff;
  • With the Executive Director and other Club Director’s, establish objectives and policies that align with the strategic directions and priorities of the Club;
  • Participate in a variety of internal and external community committees and task forces, advocating for children, youth and their families.

Administration:

  • Create budgets and monitor expenses for programs;
  • Prepare reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors;
  • Prepare proposals for Grants and any other funding opportunities.

Skills and knowledge

  • Post-Secondary education – Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree in Arts, Education, Business is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must be able to work independently, be driven and show initiative;
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Leadership ability to effectively supervise staff;
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures etc.;
  • Driver’s License.
