Position Overview

Coordinates all programs as related to the rehabilitative care and safety needs of the resident. Adheres to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices. Performs direct and indirect resident care activities as delegated by the therapist. Communicates response to treatments and suggests relevant changes to the therapist. Reviews a resident’s medical record and documents treatment interventions and responses in consultation with the therapist.

Experience

  • Caring for the elderly and clients with dementia preferred.
  • Working with equipment vendors.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized academic Rehabilitation Aide Program preferred, or
  • Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized educational institution.

  • In consultation with OT/PT identify most appropriate equipment suitable to resident needs.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.

  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Must demonstrate adequate motor coordination and dexterity.
  • Must be capable of bending, stretching and lifting while attending residents.
  • Must be able to safely transfer residents who may have limited weight bearing capabilities.
  • Involves physical activities such as standing, transferring and transporting residents and equipment.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic material, noise, allergens, blood, feces, body fluids, etc.
  • Equipment used – mechanical lifts, exercise equipment (pulleys, walking machines, exercise bikes, ambulation aides, wheelchairs, and seating components and full support chairs).

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
